DOKRA — THE ART OF LOST-WAX METAL CASTING
One of the important traditions we work with is Dokra, a traditional Indian metalcraft made using the ancient lost-wax casting technique.
Each piece is individually crafted through a process in which a wax model is prepared, encased and ultimately replaced by molten metal. The process creates objects with characteristic textures, irregularities and fine handcrafted details.
Because Dokra is handcrafted rather than mass-produced, no two pieces are necessarily identical. Variations in texture, surface finish, shape and minor details are part of the character of the craft.
We believe these variations are not imperfections. They are evidence of the human process behind the object.
